Walter Mazzarri has been named as the replacement for Leonardo Semplici as coach of Cagliari and he has signed on for the next three seasons.

The 59-year-old has not been employed since he was sacked by Torino in February 2020 but the Isolani have turned to him after they failed to win their first three matches of the 2021/22 Serie A season.

“Cagliari Calcio announces that it has entrusted the technical leadership of the first team to Walter Mazzarri who has signed a contract with the Club until 30 June 2024,” the club said on their official website.

“At the same time, the assistant coach Claudio Bellucci arrives in the Rossoblu; the athletic trainer Giuseppe Pondrelli; the technical collaborator Claudio Nitti and the match analyst Cristian Guerrini.

“Experience gained at the highest levels, both nationally – there are 462 appearances on the bench in Serie A – and internationally. A proactive game, charisma and a lot of determination: a new challenge is starting now for Mr. Mazzarri”
