The transfer window shut on August 31 with the focus turning to on-field matters, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that all deals have been done as Lazio line up the signing of David Luiz.

The 34-year-old central defender is presently a free agent, meaning that his lack of a club could see the Biancocelesti sign the exuberant Brazilian in the coming days as players without a team can still find a new home.

Lazio coach, Maurizio Sarri, worked with Luiz during their time together at Chelsea and is keen to reinforce his defence, according to Tuttosport.

After his release by Arsenal earlier this summer, Luiz has been in talks with Flamengo in his native Brazil, but Sarri wants to tempt him with a move to Serie A.

If the attempt to persuade him to come to Italy fails, then Sarri could turn his attention to other free agents. Former Sampdoria man, Shkodran Mustafi, being an alternative choice.
