Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has praised Atalanta and counterpart Gian Piero Gasperini ahead of Wednesday night’s Champions League clash at Old Trafford.

The Premier League side and Atalanta will play each other twice in quick succession over the next two weeks as they both attempt to exert some dominance on Group F.

Speaking during his press conference on Tuesday, as has been reported by TMW, Solskjaer explained how he thinks the entire operation at the Bergamo-based club is very impressive.

“First of all, the club impresses me a lot, I have to say. Their world, their style. The way they make their players grow, the coach is very strong, he has clear ideas, he knows how to make his team play.

“Before we got Amad Diallo and we were watching him a lot. There is a philosophy in the attack. It would not be fair to mention just one player. But there are very good individuals.”

Manchester United signed Amad Diallo from Atalanta late in the summer transfer window in 2020, with him eventually joining up with the squad in January 2021. The Ivorian has had an injury-hit season so far, but may be given the chance to go out on loan in January.

“He trained for the first time on Friday, he continues to do his rehabilitation, a differentiated training. He trains with the first team, he will play some matches with the Under 23s, development is what we want.

“He is very strong, by Christmas, we have to decide whether to give him the loan or let him play here.”
