Inter fans welcomed the news of Nicolo Barella‘s contract renewal on Friday, with Italian penning a new deal that will see him stay with the Serie A champions at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza until 2026.

The midfielder has been a key player for Inter since joining from Cagliari in 2019, and his importance has only grown with each passing season so far. He’s played in each of their 15 games so far this term, scoring once and assisting six more goals.

His renewal was greeted with excitement by Nerazzurri fans, and La Gazzetta dello Sport have since made the finer details of his agreement known.

They have reported that Barella will earn a base of €5 million in each of the first two seasons of the renewed contract, though there will be considerable bonuses on top of that. After two years, that sum will increase to €7.5m.

The agreement is also likely to see Barella become captain after Samir Handanovic has moved on, with Inter keen to make him the new face of the club and a pillar of the side for years to come.
