If Italy are to feature at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar they’ll have to get there via a playoff after an underwhelming 0-0 draw away to Northern Ireland on Monday night.
Roberto Mancini’s side lost their grip on top spot to Switzerland, with the Azzurri’s northern neighbours qualifying for the World Cup in their place.
Italy have now won just two of their seven games since being named European champions in July.
