AC Milan midfielder Sandro Tonali has played down the notion that the Rossoneri are coming into the Serie A season’s first Derby della Madonnina as favourites to win the Scudetto.
Milan, alongside Luciano Spalletti’s Napoli, lead the way in the Italian top tier so far. Both sides are yet to lose any of their opening 11 domestic games and already boast a seven-point cushion over champions Inter.
“No,” Tonali answered abruptly when asked by Il Corriere dello Sport if Milan were favourites for the Scudetto. “The season is long and it’s hard to say who are the favourites now.
“We started strongly last year as well and we want to keep going like this until the end. That said, every Milan player believes we can win the Scudetto.
“We’ve shown in the first 11 games that we’re a great team. We know we can stay top, and we’re aiming to do just that.”
