Serie A Team of the Week | Round 20

Round 20 of the 2021/22 campaign was one of the longest rounds of Serie A action to complete due to another COVID-19 outbreak in Italy.

It started on January 6 with Lazio drawing 3-3 with Empoli, AC Milan beating Roma 3-1, Juventus drawing 1-1 at home with Napoli, and Hellas Verona winning 2-1 away to Spezia.

Three of the rescheduled matches were played on April 27. Udinese thrashed Fiorentina 4-0 away, Atalanta and Torino shared the points in a thrilling 4-4 draw, and Bologna shocked Inter with a 2-1 win.

The round was completed on May 5 with Salernitana winning 2-1 against Venezia to leap out of the relegation zone.

Marco Silvestri – Udinese (2 Team of the Week appearances)

Despite the attacking presence of Fiorentina, the Zebrette goalkeeper made some excellent saves and kept a clean sheet.

Giovanni Di Lorenzo – Napoli (3 apps)

Although his form has not been the best in 2021/22, the Italian international showed what he can do when he is on form. Defended well and contributed offensively against Juventus.

Gary Medel – Bologna (2 apps)

The Chilean veteran was assigned to play in defence and he used his strength and experience to limit the danger posed by the Inter attack.

Federico Fazio – Salernitana (2 apps)

Attentive in defence and occasionally acted as another midfielder. Earned the penalty which Federico Bonazzoli converted early in the game.

Dennis Praet – Torino (2 apps)

Assisted in the opening goal for Antonio Sanabria and he was involved in many other attacking players for the Granata.

Sasa Lukic – Torino (3 apps)

The Serbian midfielder is displayed his calmness from the penalty spot, converting two spot kicks in the high-scoring draw against Atalanta.

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic – Lazio (6 apps)

The Biancocelesti came back twice from deficits against Empoli, and Milinkovic-Savic was inspirational in midfield, scoring twice and supplying an assist for Ciro Immobile.

Destiny Udogie – Udinese (3 apps)

Produced a fine performance defensively against Fiorentina and made a difference offensively. Gerard Deulofeu’s goal came from the wing-back’s initial shot, Udogie then hit the post with a header, and he eventually sealed the win after running onto Jean-Victor Makengo’s pass.

Luis Muriel – Atalanta (3 apps)

The Colombian made the difference by scoring two penalties, and his most important contribution in open play was assisting for

Olivier Giroud – AC Milan (5 apps)

Converted a penalty to open the scoring against Roma, and he had a shot that hit the post, then Junior Messias was able to score the rebound.

Gianluca Caprari – Hellas Verona (6 apps)

The Gialloblu were able to get a victory away to Spezia thanks to a double in the second half from the forward on loan from Sampdoria.
