Serie A champions Napoli and runners-up Lazio are both expected to be hauled in by the chasing pack in what should be a tightly fought battle for the scudetto.

That’s the verdict of leading bookmakers on the eve of the new season after bookmakers.tv crunched the numbers from different spread betting sites to give us a steer on what to expect come Sunday 26th May.

Defending champions Napoli won their third Serie A title by 16 points and have done well to hold on to the majority of the team who enjoyed such success last time out, with Kim Min-jae the only notable player to leave. It’s the departure of Luciano Spalletti that has really cast doubt over their ability to retain the title though, with the champions tipped to pick up 16 points less than last season under the stewardship of Rudi Garcia.

The predicted fall off is expected to bring Napoli right back to their rivals, and could lead to a battle that runs until the final day of the new campaign. Inter are seen as more likely to emerge victorious, if only by a single point, whilst Juventus and AC Milan are also tipped to be within six points of the leaders once all is said and done.

Lazio are the other team expected to drop off from the heights of last season, after Sergej Milinkovic-Savic was enticed by the riches of the Saudi Pro League. Taty Castellanos has been signed to provide back up to Ciro Immobile, but the extra exertions of Champions League football are still expected to take their toll, as Lazio come in 14 points short of their previous total in a distant seventh place.
