Alexis Sanchez has had a wide and varied career across domestic professional football, and throughout his playing years he was also absolutely no stranger to international level matches, but despite having almost spent two decades on the football pitch, it seems the 34 year old free agent is not quite yet ready to hang his talented boots up, as he is being strongly linked with a potential move to Italian Serie A Side AS Roma within the next few weeks.

The 155 capped Chilean international has amassed plenty of experience, and has tasted plenty of success during his years in the game, playing for the likes of Barcelona, Arsenal, Manchester United and most recently, Marseille, and the Italian way of life is absolutely not new to him either following his years with Udinese and Inter Milan.

His most recent two year spell with Inter saw 12 goals in 19 Serie A starts (38 substitute showings), with four goals in six starts (16 substitute showings) in Europe, and last season in the French Ligue 1, he made 32 starts (with three substitute showings) returning 14 goals, with a further four goals in five European matches.

The Chilean star may well be at the beginning of entering the twilight of his career, but there is talent and yards left in his legs yet, as his more recent stats more than admirably prove he has plenty to offer. Sanchez is clearly weighing up a plethora of options available to him as he looks to just enjoy the last four, or five, years of his playing career, and he may even be contemplating a return to his homeland and potentially his first club, C D Cobreloa, to complete the circle.

Speaking recently to Corriere dello Sport, Sanchez’s agent confirmed that for now, the player was contemplating a return to Serie A, despite it being widely believed that he has also received offers from other clubs in European leagues and that he has had some interest from Saudi Arabia, as they continue their push to make a mark on the sport following their big money and big name moves so far this summer.

Having spent time at Inter previously, they are naturally mentioned as being a possible destination, but Roma figure quite highly in the rumours owing to the fact that they are still on the look out for an additional striker to further bolster manager Jose Mourinho’s attacking options for the campaign.

It is speculated that if Roma make a move for him, it will not happen until the final days of the current transfer window.
