Alvaro Morata is a name that almost all European football fans will know, and his professional playing career excels on an international level for home country Spain, and he has also experienced success in a number of domestic European leagues, and it has now been confirmed that he will be returning to the Italian Serie A.
The 31 year old striker has agreed a switch from Spanish La Liga side Atletico Madrid, and has now made a move to AC Milan, on what is reported as a four year deal, with the club holding an additional 12 month option on him.
The transfer fee is said to be in the region of £11 million to make the deal go through, and it tallies with the reported rumours that suggest the 80 capped, 36 goal, international had a firm release fee of that value.
Morata will certainly be considered quite a coup for the Rossoneri. The player made his debut for Real Madrid, and his career includes sides such as Juventus and Chelsea, and he is already a serial winner having already lifted two Serie A titles, and two Champions League trophies.
His accomplishments do not end there, he has two Copa del Rey’s to his name, along with a UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup win. His time in England returned an FA Cup and a Europa League win and he has a number of individual accolades to his name.
Morata may not be the most consistent and regular of goal scorers in the current game when you consider his natural dips at some clubs, but his record is good, and he more than understands how to be a team player. If we look at his league starts alone, he has 233 appearances and has a scoring rate of 134 goals. There are 142 substitute showings to account for, but that is good by anyone’s books. Move to European and other competitive non domestic challenges in his career and he has a return of 45 goals from 80 starting appearances and 47 substitute showings.
As the San Siro outfit look to get back to their more historic best, especially for an £11 million fee, Morata is a great addition to their team and many in Serie A (let alone other leagues) will be jealous of his capture.
