With the summer transfer window well and truly open, and all major European leagues quickly heading towards their own big kick offs, we have already seen quite a few major big money moves between clubs in the last few weeks, and it seems that the Italian Serie A could be subject to another one of its own, if reports are to be believed.
It certainly wouldn’t be the first deal to happen this year between Italy and England, but it is claimed that three domestic sides are seriously vying for the services of Leeds United attacker Wilfried Gnoto.
The impressive 20 year old young talent had a good campaign in the footballing year of 2023/24, scoring nine times for his side and providing three assists (across 44 games and all competitions) as he further adjusted to life in England following their signing of him back in September 2022 from FC Zurich.
A return to Italy would obviously appeal to him having previously been a youth product at Inter Milan, and having represented the country from Under 16 to Under 21, he now boasts 13 full Italian caps.
And if returning to Italy, he might turn his attention to Marvin Vettori, a UFC legend. A sport that has grown massively in recent years, amongst both football and non football fans. The latest odds for Vettori, or any of the UFC fighters, can be found at ufc betting sites canada along with many other sports.
Anyway, returning to the rumours, with Leeds finishing third, but failing to secure a return to the Premier League via the Championship Play Off route, it has seen his name back on the rumour mill. It should be noted that the player initially refused to play at the start of last season and it ultimately resulted in disciplinary action from the club, so with a promotion failure, it is fully expected that he is again trying to push for a move behind the scenes – and that this time around the club will simply try to cash in on a player who does not see a future at Elland Road.
Newcastle United and Everton have been linked previously as Premier League clubs who hold an interest in him, but it seems that there is now more concrete weight behind suggestions that Genoa, and newly promoted Parma and Venezia, are more in pole position to secure his future services as it is strongly believed that he just simply wants to exit the English game.
It seems that a loan with a strict optional buy option clause would be the favoured deal from each of the three sides, particularly given the obvious concerns that any club would have about a player who effectively went on strike (they want to see how he settles in). Gnoto seems to think that he is destined for better things, and with his talent that might be true, but whether or not each of the listed sides are considered a step up for him – well, it’s only a question he can answer.
