English Premier League side Manchester United have a very storied history in the domestic and European game, thanks mainly to Sir Matt Busby and most recently Sir Alex Ferguson.
However, the Red Devil’s have largely been in decline since the lovably named Fergie hung up his managerial notepad, and things have not been much better on an ownership front, but their history still stands out for players, and Lecce’s young striker Nikola Krstovic is the latest to fall into a media question trap, and potentially upset his own current fan base.
The 24 year old 11 capped Montenegro full international has really started to make a name for himself at Lecce following his move to them from Red Star Belgrade back in the summer of 2023, and to date, he has scored nine times in 35 starts and six substitute showings across all competitions.
His record is far from perfect on that front and he is certainly not a household name, but at 24 plenty feel that he will quickly develop the consistency necessary to be a top striker in the very near future.
It seems the press played on that, and the fact that United are such a well known name, that it led him into stating an answer that may well be true, but is completely ahead of his own playing schedule and level right now.
The player did acknowledge that, admitting that there was certainly plenty for him to still work on in his game, and he was actually very respectful about his current club, talking about the fact it was only his second year, and that he and his family were enjoying their time there, and that he had made some great friends.
But whilst he is focused on the present, he revealed he would never play ‘in Bari’ when asked the question, and quickly added that ‘my dream’ was Old Trafford, and few neutral fans would deny that an ambition in life can only be a good thing – even if it is an unlikely one, holding it will still lead you into an unexpected, but enjoyable alternative journey that probably had not been considered.
But for any Lecce fans who only pick up the headline and do not properly read into his words, they will maybe feel slightly cheated given his 3.9 million Euro arrival just last summer, but unfortunately in this day and age even humorous trick questions from a genuine reporter can quickly get out of control when it hits the wider press.
