It has been a difficult few years for former England international midfielder Dele Alli following his initial struggles at Tottenham Hotspur, and whilst he fared a little bit better during a loan spell with Turkish side Besiktas, his over all spell at Everton and Goodison Park was not a success.
The 28 year old has been officially without a club since his contract expired over the summer, but he continued to train with Everton as he looked at where the best place may be to get his career back on track and it seems that Italian Serie A side Como have presented themselves as a very viable option.
It is believed that the experienced Alli has now arrived at the club to undergo a short trial with them, and manager Cesc Fabregas, looking at the moves that are available to them when it comes to strengthening during the January transfer window.
This would be another high profile move by the club, and quite the coup given their over all standing in the Italian game under former Spanish international Fabregas, as it was only the other week that it was being reported that they may have a deal on the table for the legendary Luka Modric when his hugely successful spell at Real Madrid comes to an end over the summer – all they apparently need to do is ensure top flight football for the 2025/26 campaign and he could be theirs on a 12 month deal.
If Alli could rediscover his form he could be a huge part in helping them achieve just that given his creativity and eye for a goal, and it looks like this deal may have been in the works for a while as prior to his confirmation that he would be leaving the Toffees to pursue a new adventure, he was spotted in the Como crowd with many feeling that a deal could be in the offing.
Fitness and sharpness would be the obvious question in Fabregas’ mind, as Alli talent is not in question. However, his last truly competitive action came way back in February 2023 during his Besiktas spell, so their ultimate decision on whether or not to offer him even a short term contract until the end of the campaign will be based on what his physical condition is.
If he ticks the right boxes though he could be a shrewd signing for the club, and he could potentially light up their season as well as Serie A itself.
It is very much another one to watch in a campaign that has already given the fans plenty to talk about.
