There can be few worldwide Italian Serie A fans who have not been following the rise and progress of Como, particularly upon the official appointment of Spanish superstar midfielder Cesc Fabregas.

Having taken over management duties last summer having served as an assistant owing to coaching licence issues as they won promotion from Serie B, the club have even been linked with a move for Real Madrid legend Luka Modric at the end of the current season, but they are doing well with seven wins and seven draws from their 27 top flight matches this year, and as I type, they are six full points clear of the relegation dropzone.

With the club naturally gaining more media attention, so are certain members of their first team squad who are impressing, and according to some press reports it is being claimed that Liverpool and manager Arne Slot are taking a close look at winger Assane Diao at the end of the campaign.

Liverpool will be on the hunt for attackers given Darwin Nunez’s fall from grace under the 46 year old Dutch gaffer, and not least the public criticism that has gone the 25 year old Uruguayan’s way of late, but there is also the ongoing saga surrounding Egyptian Mohamed Salah’s future with no new contract signed and he will be a free agent come the summer.

Journalist Khadim Diakhate has recently claimed that the four capped Spanish Under 21 international’s (Senegal born) form for Como has put him on their transfer radar. The 19 year old versatile attacker only moved to the club back in the January transfer window for a reported 12 million Euros from Real Betis, but he has already contributed five goals in his opening nine matches, with his last strike coming in their unexpected 2-1 victory last week over title challengers Napoli.

Liverpool are not the only side being linked with the starlet, fellow Premier League team Newcastle United are also said to be looking at him as a potential summer option as they no doubt hope that they can get themselves a bit of a bargain given Como are obviously not one of Italia’s financial heavyweight here given their recent journey.

This could well be an interesting one to watch, as should anything come of it Como would be looking for at least 25 million Euros as an absolute bottom line so they could continue their investment and growth, but that price could easily grow as many other clubs will no doubt be keeping an eye on the young lad as well.
