Arsenal are keen to boost their hopes of consistently winning major silverware by adding a proven goalscorer to their squad this summer.
Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz have shown they are not prolific enough to lead the line for the Gunners, but finding the right player is proving to be tricky.
According to Football Blog, Newcastle United star Alexander Isak would be Arsenal’s dream signing, but his hefty £150 million price tag is a major stumbling block.
Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres has been linked with Arsenal, although a summer reunion with former manager Ruben Amorim at Manchester United seems a more likely option.
Arsenal have been casting their net wide to find the right player and Serie A could ultimately prove to be a happy hunting ground for them this summer.
Read on as we look at four players who have attracted interest from Arsenal, starting with one who has finally started to fulfil his potential in Italy.
Mateo Retegui – Atalanta
Mateo Retegui has scored 20 goals in 23 Serie A appearances for Atalanta this season, following his move to the club from Genoa last summer.
He is currently the leading scorer in Serie A and is spearheading Atalanta’s bid to win the Scudetto for the first time in their history.
Arsenal have reportedly opened talks with Atalanta over the conditions of a potential deal and been told it will cost around £50m to sign him.
While that fee is undoubtedly within the Gunners’ reach, a move for Retegui undoubtedly comes with plenty of risks attached.
The 25-year-old’s previous goalscoring record is nothing to write home about and £50m is a lot to pay for a player who may be a one-season wonder.
Moise Kean – Fiorentina
Fiorentina striker Moise Kean was linked with Arsenal during the winter transfer window and he could be a viable option for them this summer.
The former Everton striker has netted 15 goals in 23 league appearances this term and finally looks to be fulfilling the promise he showed as a youngster.
Kean spent four seasons with Everton before returning to Italy in 2023 after scoring just two goals in 32 Premier League appearances.
The Toffees loaned him out to Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus before cutting him loose, but that experience could work to Arsenal’s advantage.
The 24-year-old would have a point to prove if he returned to the Premier League and that factor makes him an intriguing proposition for the Gunners.
Marcus Thuram – Arsenal
Arsenal are reportedly considering a move for Inter Milan forward Marcus Thuram, but the sizeable release clause in his contract could scupper their hopes.
Thuram can be signed for £71m, which is a hefty fee considering Inter secured his services on a free transfer after his contract expired at previous club Borussia Monchengladbach.
The French international helped Inter Milan clinch the Serie A title last season, bagging 13 goals and 13 assists in 35 appearances.
He has tallied another 13 goals and seven assists in 25 league games this season – numbers which suggest he may not be the right fit for Arsenal’s needs.
The Gunners have plenty of players in their squad who create chances – they need a striker who can get close to the magical goal per game average in the Premier League.
Dusan Vlahovic – Juventus
Dusan Vlahovic rejected the chance to sign for Arsenal three years ago, but the club reportedly still wants to bring him to the Emirates Stadium.
GoonerTalk claimed last October that the London outfit were pondering a move for the Serbian international but nothing came to fruition in the winter transfer window.
Intriguingly, the 25-year-old’s contract with Juventus expires in June 2026 and there have been no talks about extending his deal.
That factor could work to Arsenal’s advantage, as the Serie A giants would potentially be forced to accept a lowball offer for Vlahovic this summer.
His record of 85 goals in 192 Serie A appearances isn’t quite at the prolific level Arsenal need, but there is a suspicion he would score more in a better team.
