Champions League 2025/26 – Napoli fancied for top eight finish

There is little to choose between Inter and Napoli in the outright betting, but the latter hold more appeal as a team who could make a deep run in the competition.

They made several shrewd signings during the summer transfer window including striker Rasmus Hojlund, who joined on loan from Manchester United.

He bagged both goals in the recent 2-1 victory over Sporting CP and has been tipped to top the scoring charts for Napoli in the competition this season.

Spreadex Sports have forecast he will score more than five goals in their Champions League season goals predictions and he is well on the way to hitting that target.

The composition of the remaining league phase fixtures offers the Danish striker plenty of opportunities to show why United should have kept hold of him.

He will fancy his chances of adding to his tally when Napoli visit PSV Eindhoven given that they conceded four goals in their first two matches.

Napoli’s next four fixtures all look favourable, which could put them in a strong position heading into their Matchday 8 outing at home to Chelsea.

While Napoli are currently three points adrift of Inter, it is not unreasonable to believe they will finish ahead of them when the league phase ends.

Inter look a good bet to win their next two matches against Union Saint-Gilloise (A) and Kairat Almaty (H), but things get much tougher from that point.

Their visit to Atletico Madrid on Matchday 5 is a potential banana skin, while home games against Premier League duo Liverpool and Arsenal are fraught with danger.

Their final league phase fixture at Borussia Dortmund could also have plenty riding on it if both teams are jostling to finish in the top eight.

With Atalanta and Juventus likely be battling to secure a knockout round play-off spot, Inter and Napoli are Serie A’s best hopes of a top eight finish.

Inter achieved the feat last season before reaching the final, but their run of games from Matchday 5 onwards will make it difficult for them to secure automatic progression to the last-16.

By contrast, it would be no surprise if Napoli remained unbeaten for the rest of the league phase to ensure they avoid playing a play-off tie in February.
