Sarri Reportedly In Demand With Lazio Future Unknown

Maurizio Sarri is a hugely experienced, and much travelled manager, who at the age of 67 years old shows no signs of slowing down – and although he is currently the head coach of well respected Italian Serie A side Lazio, history would dictate that he will not be in that position for much longer.

Having originally failed to make it as a professional footballer, Sarri slowly stepped into the world of coaching and having made his way through the lower ranks of the game before representing the likes of Napoli, Chelsea and Juventus, he has taken charge of a whopping 21 clubs in total, but that includes two spells with a sabbatical gap with his current club.

As the best performing sides in the World Cup 2026 standings will eventually show with their game record, his win record at the named clubs is pretty decent in fairness – he never lost more games in a single spell at a club than he won, and only once did he lose more games than he drew…but in winning over double more than he drew it was not an issue.

His second spell at the Stadio Olimpico has not been a disaster, but neither has he pulled up any trees and with 31 games played in the 2025/26 season Lazio have eleven wins, with the same number of draws, and nine defeats leaving them on 44 points in ninth place in the table. A late European run is now mathematically possible but hugely unlikely, and the speculation rumour mill is full of claims that he will again move on for pastures new come the summer.

It is said that a number of clubs are keeping track of what his future holds, but Fiorentina and AC Milan have been namechecked as having a special interest. Naturally, this speculation mainly comes from Sarri himself who is on record as saying that he will remain until at least the end of the season given the off pitch issues and rift that has formed between the fans and the board, leading to a stadium boycott.

He has not ruled out staying at the club for next season but he is seeking guarantees given the summer transfer ban that they suffered which led to the sale of some key and important players, which has obviously not helped their chances this year. Given that climate and the possibility that he will not get the guarantees he wants, it is understandable as to why other clubs are sniffing around.

Sarri is a pretty popular figure amongst a number of fanbases, La Viola in particular, and they have recently appointed sporting director Fabio Paratici who Sarri has worked with before, albeit with a soured relationship by the end. So whilst interest from that direction would make a fair bit of sense – his own record and experience would also suit the other sides given a namecheck such as the aforementioned AC Milan, Bologna, Atalanta, and you could even possibly include another former club on that list in Napoli should Antonio Conte or their board decide that a parting of the ways may be the best option ahead of the new season.
