The fourth round of the Coppa Italia got underway this week with a number of shocks.

Palermo were the first big name to be knocked out as they succumbed to a 2-1 defeat against Hellas Verona at the Stadio Barbera on Tuesday evening.

There were two goal in the opening seven minutes as Luigi Giorgi put the Rosanero ahead after just six minutes, but Andrea Cocco levelled immediately after for Hellas.

Fabrizio Cacciatore was sent off for the Serie B team midway through the second half, after initially being booked for dissent he continued to run his mouth and received a second yellow.

However, this didn’t dent Verona’s confidence and they received a moment of fortune when goalkeeper Carlos Labrin smashed the ball against Daniele Cacia only for the ball to end up in the Palermo net.

The other team from Verona, Chievo couldn’t mirror their neighbours achievement and crashed out to Serie B side Reggina on Wednesday.

Fabio Lucioni grabbed the only goal in the Amaranto’s 1-0 win at the Stadio Bentegodi.

The defender was very much involved in the game as he blocked a shot from Samassa which would have brought the home side level, then almost putting the ball in his own net, but luckily it hit the crossbar.

Elsewhere, Atalanta booked their place in the next stage with a 3-1 win over Cesena at the Stadio Azzurri d’Italia.

But it wasn’t all plain-sailing as the awe side too the lead on the half-hour mark through Denis Tonucci, but a double from Facundo Parra, either side of a Giuseppe De Luca goal, gave La Dea the win.

Bologna got the better of Livorno 1-0 Stadio Dall’Ara with Cristian Pasquato getting the only goal.

The forward’s shot did take a deflection on its way past Luca Mazzoni, who was replaced at half-time by Vincenzo Fiorillo.

Serse Cosmi’s Siena took on Torino at the Stadio Franchi and came away with a 2-0 win.

Ze Eduardo opened the scoring for the Bianconeri midway through the first half, before Reginaldo put the tie to bed in the 77th minute, converting an Alessandro Rosina ball.

Finally, Fiorenina also made it into the fifth round with a hard-fought 2-0 win over Serie B’s Juve Stabia.

The away side hit the crossbar early on when Michele Murolo deflected a William Jidayi shot.

But early in the second half Haris Seferovic headed home from a corner to give Vincenzo Montella’s men the lead.

Then, in the 72nd minute, Ahmed El-Sayed Hegazi slid home the second.

Murolo was also sent off for the away team, while Nenad Tomovic also hit the post for Fiorentina.

The fourth round isn’t over as Catania meet Cittadella, and Cagliari play Pescara on December 4 and 5 respectively, while the draw for the fifth round can be found here.
