Livorno beat Brescia 1-0 at the Stadio Mario Rigamonti in Serie B on Saturday night.

An own goal from Stefano Minelli sealed the win for the away side who also had a penalty saved as the aforementioned Minelli denied Aniello Cutolo.

Both teams had early chances on the 10th minute when firstly a sloppy header from Valerio Di Cesare fell to Luca Belingheri whose effort was tipped around the post by Minelli. Then for the Leonessa, Daniele Corvia had a curling strike palmed away by Luca Mazzoni.

Corvia was denied again by Mazzoni later in the half when the striker volleyed from the edge of the box, but the Livorno goalkeeper was equal to it.

The Amaranto were awarded a penalty on the half-hour mark when Racine Coly handled in the area during a Livorno free-kick.

Cutolo stepped up, but his telegraphed spot kick was well saved by Minelli down to his bottom right, and both teams went into the break level.

Luca Siligardi let fly from 30 yards out in the 67th minute and came closest yet to scoring as the ball skimmed the top of the crossbar.

A few minutes later Livorno had a great chance to take the lead as Daniele Vantaggiato went one on one with Minelli but the 20-year-old goalkeeper came to Brescia’s rescue again as he blocked the shot over the bar.

The Amaranto though finally took the lead in the 79th minute through an own goal from man of the match Minelli. The goalkeeper was unfortunate as Alessandro Bernardini’s header crashed off the bar and hit him in the back and into the net.

Despite a late blitz on the away side’s goal, Brescia couldn’t find an equaliser and Livorno earned a 1-0 win which was just about right on the basis of the match.
