Godin: AC Milan would be a backwards step

Atletico Madrid defender and AC Milan target Diego Godin has rebuffed the Rossoneri’s interest, while taking a swipe at the ailing club in the process.

AC Milan have been linked with the Uruguayan centre-back before, with Manchester City reportedly keeping tabs on Godin as well.

In the current climate however, Godin has turned down the possibility of an AC Milan switch, deeming the move not in the best interest of his playing career.

“I know nothing of AC Milan interest and would not even think about it,” Godin said in an interview to El Pais.

“Today, I do not see the sporting sense or motivation to join AC Milan; in terms of their project, AC Milan are far from Atletico Madrid.

“It [a Rossoneri switch] would be a step back. I feel good at Atletico Madrid and I still have a lot of ambition; but it would be completely different if it were a club with more ambition.”

AC Milan suffered an awful 2014-15 season, finishing 10th in Serie A and out of any European competition for the year to come.

  1. We the ac milan faithful in nigeria are even wondering what in God’s name would we be going after Godin for, he’s just too old for me, we want to rebuild then let’s do it with young energantic players not old men like ibra and Godin.
