Napoli forward Gonzalo Higuain has reportedly agreed to renew his contract at the Stadio San Paolo.
The former Real Madrid striker was linked with a number of English sides such as Manchester City, but is on the verge of extending his contract after linking up with his team-mates for pre-season at the Dimaro training camp.
According to Calciomercato.com, Higuain is poised to extend his contract by one year which will keep him at the club until 2019 following a positive meeting between his entourage and club president Aurelio De Laurentiis in Venice.
The Napoli president was eager to secure Higuain’s future as he is regarded as a central player in the new project under coach Maurizio Sarri.
De Launrentiis also hinted to Napoli fans present in Dimaro that the Argentine forward is staying with the Azzurri after a supporter asked the president if Higuain had renewed his contract.
“Do you think that Gonzalo [Higuain] has come here just to take the air,” said De Laurentiis.
Higuain scored 18 goals from 37 appearances during the 2014-15 Serie A season.
