Sunderland have reportedly begun discussions to sign former AC Milan striker Alexandre Pato as a replacement for Connor Wickham who is Crystal Palace-bound.

The forward left Serie A and moved to Brazilian side Corinthians in 2013 but has been loaned out to Sao Paolo for the past two seasons where he has rediscovered his scoring form. Pato burst onto the scene for Milan in 2007 and was considered one of the most promising young prospects in the world at that time.

According to The Mirror, the Black Cats have the chance to lure the Brazil international to England for £5 million as they look to bolster their front line. The striker had also been linked with a switch to Rome-based club Lazio, though his future now looks set to be in England.

Pato spent five seasons with the Rossoneri where he made 117 appearances and scored 51 goals, however his progress was hampered by a string of injuries.
