Chievo goalkeeper Albano Bizzarri has revealed that he is only focusing on avoiding relegation, despite the Gialloblu’s position near the summit of the Serie A table.
The Flying Donkeys have enjoyed an excellent start to the season and sit proudly in second place after three matches, having thrashed Empoli and Lazio before earning a draw at the Juventus.
However, Bizzarri isn’t letting such success get to his head, and is instead still aiming to pick up as many points as possible to maintain a comfortable distance from the drop zone.
“Aside from the result, we have emerged as a more confident team after the match against Juventus,” he told Tuttosport with regards to the 1-1 draw at the Juventus Stadium.
“Not everyone can play so well in the most difficult stadium in Italy.
The shot-stopper then looked ahead to Sunday’s clash with Inter.
“I do not simply want to beat Inter just to overtake them in the league standings.
“Instead I see a victory as a step further from the relegation zone.”
Bizzari also commented on Chievo’s reputation for stifling the top clubs.
“We are seen as a ‘pain in the arse team’ to the bigger sides, but to stand for anything else would be the first step towards the bottom.”
