Insigne was forced to pull out of the Italy squad for the Euro qualifiers against Azerbaijan and Norway due to a knee injury he picked up against Bonaventura’s Milan at the weekend.

Conte has named Bonaventura as Insigne’s replacement just hours after the forward returned to Napoli to undergo further treatment to his knee injury.

Bonaventura has not played for Italy this year and has two caps to his name since making his debut in 2013 against San Marino in a friendly in Bologna.

The 26-year-old has impressed with Milan so far this season with two goals and three assists already in Serie A.

Bonaventura moved to Milan from Atalanta last year and in his debut season for the Rossoneri made 33 appearances in Serie A, scoring seven goals and assisting four.
