eder italy azerbajianItaly striker Eder believes Manolo Gabbiadini’s late injury in a friendly against Romania cost the Azzurri a well deserved victory.

After going undefeated during their European Championship qualification campaign, the national team fell to Belgium, and then drew 2-2 with Romania after Florin Andone’s late strike ruled out the Azzurri’s hopes of ending the year with a victory.

“I think the squad did well,” the Italian attacker told Rai Sport following the match.

“Although once again we did not get the result we deserved.

“We created many chances to score and could have done more,” he added.

After going behind in the first half, the game later seemed to turn around for the Italians as Gabbiadini struck the go-ahead goal, but the Napoli striker was later carried off the field, forcing the home side to play the final five minutes with just 10 men.

“Unfortunately, we went down to 10 men after Gabbiadini’s accident, as there were no more substitutions, and from that point we struggled,” stated Eder.

“As the coach said, the effort and intensity are right, but we need to reduce the amount of errors we make.

“[Belgium and Romania were] two important tests, although we didn’t get the results we hoped, and we need to improve if we want to do well in the European Championships next year,” he concluded.
