Francesco Acerbi - SassuoloSassuolo defender Francesco Acerbi has targeted a place in Antonio Conte’s Italy squad for Euro 2016.

The 27-year-old has been integral to the Neroverdi’s success this term, with the club only three points adrift of fifth-placed Roma.

“I hope I will be picked for Italy, but the important thing is to do well with Sassuolo,” Acerbi told Sky Sport Italia.

“A place in the Euro 2016 squad remains my goal.”

The defender has been earmarked by his coach Eusebio Di Francesco as a future Azzurri defender and he also spoke at length about Sassuolo’s success this season.

“Our results have given us confidence,” added Acerbi.

“We enter the field with the knowledge that we are a good team if we are on form.

“We look at the standings and we must try to stay with the pack.”

Sassuolo take on Bologna this weekend in Serie A.
