higuainTo block out any possible transfer, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis is prepared to discuss a contract renewal with Gonzalo Higuain.

The Argentine international has had a number of clubs tracking him recently with heavy speculation linking him with a transfer to Arsenal, while West Ham United were prepared to splash the cash on the 28-year-old and an offer from Chinese club Hebei China Fortune was rejected.

According to Premium Sport, De Laurentiis wants to put an end to all rumours surrounding ‘Il Pipita’ and will offer the player a €7.5 million-per-year plus bonuses contract, with an added incentive of €10m should Napoli win the Scudetto next year or if Higuain became top scorer once again. His buy-out clause would also be lowered from over €90m to €60m.

Higuain was crowned Capocannoniere last season after scoring 36 goals, while no other player could reach a total of 20.

It had previously been reported that he would leave the Partenopei once his contract expired in 2018 but, although these new contract details don’t suggest an extension, it is possible that Higuain would stay on as a result of his salary increase.
