Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini is infuriated with the refereeing decision that cost Palermo 2-0 defeat against Napoli on Tuesday and has threatened to leave Palermo.

“I think the referees hate me. I am seriously considering leaving and would already have done so if it weren’t for the affection of the Palermo fans,” an enraged Zamparini blasted on Radio Radio.

“Paolo Cannavaro’s tackle on Josip Ilicic was more of a penalty than the one they gave Napoli.”

Zamparini feels that the current condition of the refereeing institution is worse than that of the Calciopoli period.

“By conditioning the result of this game, they are also conditioning the entire tournament. After Calciopoli the situation is even worse.

“At least during Calciopoli the institutions controlled the refereeing system. Now they are independent and without any oversight. Instead of focusing on this, they go and see how they can punish a club like ours for stupid things with 12 month bans.”

Napoli were awarded a soft penalty after a rebounded ball off Milan Milanovic’s leg and struck his arm, and Zamparini believes it’s unacceptable under Italian rules.

  1. Palermo says:

If Zamparini is considering leaving Palermo just because of a poor refereeing decision I wonder whether he will be capable of handling more serious matters at the club. Although his grievances might be genuine, this is certainly not something that would make a whole club president consider leaving his club.
