Luigi Delneri applauded his players for their effort, but admitted that the club are in a difficult moment after their 1-0 to Fiorentina on Thursday night.

Delneri took over at Genoa on October 22nd and has been unable to gain points in his first two matches at the club, but pointed to the fact that several key players are missing for the Rossoblu.

“I opted for a different formation because we had to mark Cuadrado and Pasqual so I opted for Sampirisi and Antonelli,” the newly appointed manager told Sky Sport Italia.

“We suffered because we don’t have players off the bench that can come on and change the match.”

“The players fought hard and kept playing until the end. Fiorentina played well on the counter-attack but they never ran over us. We did what we could today.”

“It upsets me to hear [Linus] Hallenius being jeered. He didn’t play badly and he is coming back from a bad injury so we must wait for him to get back into game shape.”

“Jorquera? He must improve, training is important and he must return to being in great form.”

“It is key that I give a style of play to the squad even if we are missing a lot of key players right now like Borriello, Jankovic and Rossi.”

The loss leaves Genoa sitting in 16th place with 9 points from 10 matches.
