Serie-A-logo-300x159The Best Global Brands list for World Football clubs was released recently. Seven Serie A clubs have made the top 50 but with only one inside the top ten.

A look at the top ten could appear to be a poor reflection on Italian football with only AC Milan (just, they sit in ninth place) present in the top rung.

A broader look at the top 50 will show you that Italian football on a whole is still strong; the list features 14 English sides with the Germans well behind that figure with eight Bundesliga sides. However the seven Serie A sides (AC Milan, Juventus, Inter, Napoli, Roma, Fiorentina and Lazio) makes Italy third, ahead of Spain who only have five.

The list published on branddirectory.com  shows that AC Milan and Fiorentina have remained unchanged from last year’s rankings (9 and 49 respectively). However Inter, Roma and Lazio have all moved down in the list (Inter 13 down to 15, Roma 21 down to 28 and Lazio 48 down to 50).

The positive news is that Juventus and Napoli have both risen. The champions have leap frogged Inter up to 13th from 16th last year and Napoli are up to 20 from 22.

In terms of value in US Dollars, the total worth of the seven Serie A teams amounts to $881 Million. Which can sound like a high sum but is worth less than the combined total of the top two clubs of either Spain, England or Germany.

The top 10 can be found here (plus selected others):

1. Bayern Munich – $860 million

2. Manchester United – $837m

3. Real Madrid – $621m

4. Barcelona – $572m

5. Chelsea – $418m

6. Arsenal – $410m

7. Liverpool – $361m

8. Manchester City – $332m

9. AC Milan – $263m

10. Borussia Dortmund – $260m

13. Juventus – $180m

15. Inter – $151m

22. Napoli $101m

28. Roma – $82m

49. Fiorentina – $52m

50. Lazio – $52m

your description in “about the author” is very funny and I love it.
    Ciao,
    from a Roma fan 🙂

  2. If we were allowed to use swear words in descriptions it would be a lot more revealing!
