Lazio technical area director Igli Tare has stated that Mauro Zarate’s move to Velez Sarsfield is not official despite Monday’s announcement.
The Argentine had been called up by the Biancocelesti to their pre-season training camp, but Zarate did not attend after handing the club a document stating he had been freed from his contract which ran until 2014.
Lazio have not received word from FIFA or the FIGC regarding the document, and as a result they will be taking the case to an arbitrator on July 22.
“We have received word of Velez’s announcement,” Tare told lalaziosiamonoi.it.
“I can say that we are awaiting word form the arbitrator, and so for Lazio the question surrounding Zarate does not end here.”
After Monday’s announcement, Zarate hit out at club president Claudio Lotito after making only Serie A appearance for the club last season.
