AC Milan are closing in on a loan deal for Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien.

The Ghanaian has been linked with a move to the Rossoneri for some time and Adriano Galliani has reportedly agreed a deal to loan him until the end of the season.

Mediaset report that Milan will loan Essien until June but first new coach Clarence Seedorf must give approval to the move to bring the midfielder in.

The 31-year-old signed for Chelsea in 2005, and has made over 160 appearances for the Stamford Bridge side in eight years. The midfielder also spent a season on loan at Real Madrid for the 2012-13 season before returning to England.

I loved Essien about 4 years ago. Remember when Mourinho 1.0 was there and I heard a state that Essien played every minute of every Chelsea game that year (Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup and Champions League). I’m not sure what value he has now with De Jong in that role…an improvement over Nocerino, maybe?
