Former Parma Sporting director Pietro Leonardi, after stepping down from his role at the club, has launched a thinly veiled attack on those he felt did not support him throughout the club’s crisis.

Parma went into financial meltdown over the last couple weeks, with the club finally being passed on to the Mapi Group. The new president Giampietro Manenti now owns the club, with the previous hierarchy stepping away.

Leonardi has hit back however at the criticism he has received from some corners, accusing his detractors of having betrayed him and pushing him towards leaving Parma.

“I respect the fans who criticize me,” Leonardi said to Tutto Mercato Web. “Maybe I paid for my silence.

“However, being in a place where I was surrounded with traitors and where I was disputed was not for me.

“Who are the traitors? They know, there is no need to name them. When I was in the hospital, I saw few allies.”
