English Premier League side Sunderland are unwilling to pay the €10 million owed to Inter from the Ricardo Alvarez transfer, with the case now set to go to FIFA for a resolution.

The Argentine made the move to the Stadium of Light on transfer deadline day in September 2014, initially on-loan with a view to a permanent deal if The Black Cats avoided relegation, with a €10m fee agreed between the clubs.

But now according to the Daily Star Sunday, the north-east side are refusing to pay the fee after the 27-year-old only managed eight Premier League appearances after a series of injuries kept him out of the side for most of the season.

The case is now expected to go FIFA arbitration, with the Black Cats claiming due to the player suffering from a series of injuries they are not obliged to complete the deal.

The midfielder is due to have an operation on a recurring knee injury over the summer which could help the Premier League side in their case.
