Roma are close to bringing Real Madrid and Spain goalkeeper Iker Casillas to the Giallorossi next season as they look to improve their squad depth.

The 34-year-old Spanish international has been in mixed form in recent seasons and he could be replaced at Madrid by Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea. Roma also look keen to find a new goalkeeper who can take the starting position in goal from Morgan De Sanctis.

According to Spanish publication AS, the goalkeeper has approved of a move to the Italian capital, while his agent also said Casillas was flattered to be linked with the Giallorossi.

Casillas has been capped 162 times for his country since he won his first cap back in 2000 and he captained La Roja to victory at Euro 2008, the 2010 World Cup and Euro 2012. He has played in 725 competitive fixtures for Real Madrid since 1999.
