Ricky Alvarez’s star continues to plummet as the former Inter player was excluded from pre-season training with his Sunderland team-mates.

The talented playmaker is caught in a battle with Inter as the Nerazzurri claim the Black Cats’ Premier League survival triggered an automatic clause approaching €11 million.

On the other hand, Sunderland argue that the winger’s injury and limited playing time provide the club an escape route from making the deal permanent.

Alvarez posted a photo to his official Twitter account of him training alone with the caption “I am training hard waiting for news of my future.”

The 27-year-old Argentine playmaker displayed flashes of brilliance but was largely inconsistent in his four years with the Nerazzurri and moved to England in a deadline day deal last season.

After making only five Premier League starts and 13 overall appearances, Sunderland are seeking to avoid paying Inter and a legal case may be required to rule where Alvarez’s future stands.

As understand the situation Sunderland say Alvarez is not fit to play at the moment and needs several months of recuperation after medical treatment. They also say that this is because Inter refused to let him have surgery when it was needed and that it was therefore they who broke the contract.

Irrespective of that Sunderland have not bought the player and at the moment whatever Inter claim. He is still their player and no amount of histrionics and media claims that the guy is fit will change that or get them any Euros.

You can bet that Sunderland’s lawyers know their case is rock solid because that is how Chairman Elis Short (who did not get to be one of the richest men in the world by being dumb) works.

This is a joke. Inter loaned the player to Sunderland because of the agreement. Sunderland agreed to this and took on the player. If Sunderland want to renege on the agreement, fine. But then they should be relegated to the championship. Such a pathetic club. I hope you go bankrupt.

I laughed when it said former Inter player and Sunderland team-mates by mistake.

I think this back and forth between the clubs makes for great theatre.

What a pity that such a shameless club was not relegated last season!

Saint Sid, you’re severely mistaken. Sunderland may not have bought the player, but had agreed to purchase him at 11M euros should they remain in the premier league, which they did. So obviously they must honor the agreement they had made in the past.

Their surgery delay nonsense is their attempt to get away from it, but that’s not going to change the fact that Sunderland had agreed to purchase Alvarez on a permanent basis on the term shown above.
