New Sampdoria coach Walter Zenga has revealed that he is looking to impose a new playing style at the club with a greater focus on player decision-making.

The former Blucerchiati goalkeeper was appointed as the successor to Sinisa Mihajlovic on a one-year contract after most recently working in the United Arab Emirates.

“We have had to start training early because of preparations for the preliminary stages of the Europa League,” the 55-year-old tactician said during a press conference at their training retreat in Ponte di Legno.

“The lads are working with great enthusiasm and continuing this will be crucial for the coming season.

“Preparations are continuing to go in the right direction. We are focusing on some new concepts, but that is normal.

“My methodology is based on the players having accountability over little details so that this will create a harmonious group.

“Abroad there is an idea of empowering players so that if they can handle little things, they will also be able to manage themselves on the pitch in front of 40 thousand people.

“We want to find our own identity and impose our style against anyone, while obviously respecting our opponents.”
