Lazio manager Stefano Pioli is confident that his side can progress to the group stages of the Champions League.
The Serie A side face Bayer Leverkusen at the Stadio Olimpico on Tuesday evening and Pioli believes that his side have found the continuity and confidence needed to progress despite a poor pre-season that culminated in defeat to Juventus in the Supercoppa Italiana.
“We have improved our preparation and physical condition although the pre-season as well as the Italian Super Cup were disappointing,” said Pioli at the pre-match press conference.
“I am strongly convinced though that we have been doing good work especially in the last fortnight we have found that consistency which was missing previously,” he added.
Lazio face a tough Leverkusen side that impressed in last year’s competition, narrowly missing out on a quarter-final place after defeat on penalties to Atletico Madrid.
