Lopez: Gianluigi Donnarumma is the future of AC Milan

Diego Lopez - AC MilanAC Milan goalkeeper Diego Lopez has praised teammate Gianluigi Donnarumma following the young Italian starting his first Serie A game.

The Rossoneri defeated Sassuolo 2-1 in Serie A on Sunday afternoon which Lopez insist is an important three points.

“It was important to win and luckily we did,” he told Rai after the match.

The 33-year-old was benched for the game against the Neroverdi with 16-year-old Donnarumma taking his place and, after a good game for the youngster, Lopez has praised him highly.

“The game seemed to be going downhill after the penalty but it didn’t,” he said.

“I thought Donnarumma play well.

“He is a great guy and is the future of Milan and Italian football.”

Milan are in tenth place in the Serie A table ahead of their next game at home to Chievo on Wednesday night, while Sassuolo are in seventh.

    Wouldn’t be too shocked if we sold him after the end of the season. Galliani tends to make all the bad deals happen. Maybe buy an old GK instead?
