Fiorentina have issued Portuguese side Benfica an ultimatum for centre-back Lisandro Lopez, telling the club to make a decision by the end of the week.

The Viola are looking to strengthen defensively and have earmarked the Argentine as a potential target.

However, SportItalia’s Alfredo Pedulla suggests that should the Lisbon side not have made a decision on Lopez by Friday, Fiorentina will turn their attention elsewhere.

Viola legend Rui Costa is now sporting director at the Aguias, and with first choice centre-back Luisao injured, it is thought that he wants to be assured he has a replacement lined up before he lets his former side pluck the former Arsenal de Sarandi stopper from his first team.

Lopez left the Buenos Aires side for Portugal in the summer of 2013 and after a year on loan with Getafe returned to his parent club.

“Aguilas” ? Did you mean “Águias” (eagles) ?
