Thomas Vermaelen ArsenalLazio could make a move for Barcelona defender Thomas Vermaelen in the January transfer window as they look to solve their defensive issues.

The Biancocelesti, who sit 10th place in the Serie A table, have the worst defensive record in the top 10 and have identified that as an area to improve on if they want to climb higher up the league.

As reported by Corriere dello Sport, the Aquile are looking to bring in experience from Spain with 30-year-old Vermaelen on their radar, who is worth around €6 million.

Vermaelen has struggled to find consistency in the Blaugrana line-up recently, appearing just four times in the Primera Division so far this season.

A move in the opposite direction is also on the cards given that the agency which Vermaelen is managed by is the same as current Lazio defenders Wesley Hoedt and Stefan de Vrij.
