luciano-spalletti_1238226cLuciano Spalletti is being held as the firm favourite to take over from current Roma coach Rudi Garcia following their 1-1 home draw with AC Milan.

The Frenchman has been treading on thin ice for months now and it seems that Saturday night’s performance against the Rossoneri was the final straw for president James Pallotta, who described the match as ‘disgusting‘.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Pallotta is poised to sack Garcia after holding a summit in Miami regarding the tactician’s future and is, in turn, ready to bring in fan favourite Spalletti.

Having taken the club to great heights during his four-year reign between 2005-09, Spalletti is viewed as the ideal man to lead the team forward and introduce a fresh winning mentality.

Former Marseille coach Marcelo Bielsa and Chile’s Jorge Sampaoli are names also believed to be of interest to Pallotta, though Spalletti is said to be his number one target.

Should the 56-year-old make a return to the Stadio Olimpico, then it is likely he will wait until the end of the season before taking over, with Primavera coach Alberto De Rossi on call to supervise the team in the meantime.
