interInter are speaking with a number of clubs in an eleventh-hour pursuit for winter reinforcements.

The Nerazzurri have amassed a mere five points over a poor month of January which culminated in last night’s 3-0 thrashing at the hands of city rivals AC Milan.

Inter’s struggles in the midfield has led sporting director Piero Ausilio into broking deals for Sampdoria’s Roberto Soriano and Sevilla’s Ever Banega but both acquisitions are set to join in the summer and hence cannot help alleviate the club’s problems in the short term.

With this in mind, coach Roberto Mancini is still anxiously awaiting news of last-minute additions, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

The club is apparently making a last-ditch effort to bring Banega in early but the Spanish club remain reluctant to sell.

As an alternative, the Nerazzurri are also holding talks with Udinese for playmaker and free kick specialist Francesco Lodi.

In addition to Lodi, the two clubs have also been discussing the sale of right-back Silvan Widmer.

The 22-year-old Switzerland international is seen as a potential replacement for Davide Santon, who has been linked with Roma as well as with a return to the English Premier League with West Ham United and Norwich City.

The Biscione have also been in contact with Torino over the services of Bruno Peres, according to Tuttosport.

The highly-rated Brazilian can play as a right-back or winger, akin to former Inter player Jonathan.
