Lazio coach Stefano Pioli commended his side’s determination in their 2-0 victory over Atalanta at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday evening.
Miroslav Klose netted a brace as the Aquile registered their first Serie A win in over a month.
“Tonight went well,” Pioli told Premium Sports after the game.
“We fought and gritted our teeth when we suffered, then we unlocked the defence and now we have to recover for Thursday’s game.”
Klose grabbed the headlines with his second-half brace and the Lazio coach says he was sure the German would make an impact by granting him a rare start in attack.
“For a player who trains without much playing time it is not easy to keep alert,” he added.
“I am happy to have given him this possibility and I was sure of his response.”
With the victory, Lazio closed the gap on Sassuolo in 7th place to three points ahead of their meeting with AC Milan next weekend.
