alvarez sampVincenzo Montella’s coaching style at Sampdoria has drawn plaudits from one of his own midfielders in Ricky Alvarez.

The Doriani defeated Frosinone 2-0 in their most recent Serie A fixture and the victory broke an eight-game winless streak.

Despite the lack of points prior to the match against the Canarini, the former Inter midfielder believes that his team is working hard to truly bring Montella’s languid possession style to fruition.

“The latest victory confirmed that we have worked hard in recent weeks but now we must continue to get points,” Alvarez told Sky Sport Italia.

“The coach likes attacking football and keeping the ball. We all know that is his style. We are still trying to understand it more and we are looking to make it better.”

Sampdoria are 15th on the Serie A table with 28 points after 27 rounds and they are five points above the relegation zone but Alvarez is confident in his team’s chances of salvation.

“We still need to collect points,” Alvarez added. “We have lost them in many games and we will look at finishing as high as possible. We believe in it.”
