Having signed a contract extension until 2018 on Wednesday, Gianluigi Buffon has thanked the Juventus club hierarchy for the trust that they have placed in him for the foreseeable future.
The Italian’s new two-year contract will see him continue his playing career in Turin until the ripe age of 40, and he has since revealed that he is optimistic about obtaining silverware in the latter stages of his goalkeeping career.
“I am extremely proud considering the faith that the club have placed in me,” said Buffon to La Stampa. “Here a player can express themselves at the highest levels
“I hope I can end my career with the best possible rewards.”
This latest deal will see Buffon continue his 17-year stint with the Old Lady, in which he has made a total of 458 Serie A appearances, recently helping the Bianconeri win their fifth consecutive Scudetto.
