AC Milan have been stopped in their tracks to sign Mateo Musacchio, as it transpires they do not have sufficient funds at the moment.

The Villarreal defender has been on the wanted list at Milan for a while and it previously looked unlikely that he would move to Italy due to the Spanish side’s asking price being too high.

That was sorted, however another problem has arisen as, according to pianetamilan.it, the Rossoneri will only be able to bring in Musacchio following the sale of striker Carlos Bacca.

Colombian international Bacca is expected to leave this summer due to his desire to play in the Champions League, and only when Milan receive the €30 million requested for Bacca would they be able to sign Musacchio.

The Diavolo are on limited funds during the current transfer market as the Chinese takeover will only give the club cash in September, not any time earlier, meaning the window will have already shut.

They will hope to use Bacca’s desire to leave as a way of bringing some money in, with the likes of West Ham United, Arsenal and Serie A rivals Napoli all interested.

There is no rush to sign Musacchio while they have a chance, however, as he was left out of Villarreal’s squad against Real Sociedad, making it almost certain that an exit is imminent.
