marcelo bielsaAfter just two days in the job, Marcelo Bielsa has decided to quit his role as Lazio coach, before ever taking a training session.

The 60-year-old was due to officially start his new job on Saturday, June 9, but has astonishingly decided to issue his resignation already.

“We note with amazement the resignation of Mr Marcelo Bielsa,” read an official club statement on Friday. “This is a clear violation of the commitments undertaken in last week’s agreements.”

Bielsa had signed a contract at the Stadio Olimpico and was expected in Rome on Saturday, with the paperwork already submitted to the FIGC.

Prior to the club officially appointing Bielsa, the ex-Marseille boss was heavily linked with a return to his native Argentina, to succeed Gerardo Martino as national team manager.

Lazio, meanwhile, have once again placed Simone Inzaghi in temporary charge of the first team, with the 40-year-old having previously taken over following the dismissal of Stefano Pioli during the 2015-16 season.
