Napoli missed out on a golden opportunity to play in next year’s Champions League as they laboured to a 1-1 draw with Hellas Verona.

The Azzurri had their fate in their own hands, but the draw left the door open for Juventus to steal fourth place. Despite looking so exciting in attack all season, Napoli looked completely devoid of ideas and can have no complaints at the end result.

Ratings:

Meret 6; Di Lorenzo 5, Manolas 6, Rrahmani 6.5, Hysaj 5 (71′ Mario Rui 5); Fabian 5, Bakayoko 4 (81′ Petagna N/A); Zielinski 5 (71′ Mertens 5.5), Lozano 5.5 (68′ Politano 6), Insigne 5; Osimhen 5.

Player of the match – Amir Rrahmani

Not a single Napoli player put in a good performance against Verona as they choked when it mattered most. They lacked creativity and urgency going forward and always looked vulnerable when Verona came forward. Amir Rrahmani gets Player of the Match simply because he scored the goal that, for eight minutes, looked as though it had sent Napoli into the Champions League.
