Manchester City and England forward Raheem Sterling could be sacrificed by the Premier League champions to facilitate a deal for JuventusCristiano Ronaldo.

City are now the club linked most seriously with the Portuguese star who is believed to be seeking a move away from Serie A.

Ronaldo is not out of contract until June 2022 so it would take a transfer fee to prise him away from Juve, which City are not willing to pay. This opens the door to Juventus taking a Manchester City star in exchange for Ronaldo, whilst making a significant saving on the wage bill.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Sterling is the player that Pep Guardiola would let go in order to get the ex-Manchester United and Real Madrid star to the Etihad Stadium.

It was previously believed that Gabriel Jesus was the most likely to be sacrificed but due to the club’s lack of strikers, Sterling is a more logical player to part ways with.
